Antique American Clocks July 2020
139. $150
Waterbury “Vesta” figural, ca. 1905. Vesta was the Roman god of hearth and home (Hestia in
Greek). The clock is 12 inches high and 15 inches across in a good bronze finish. Note that Vesta is holding her pen in
her hand. The ivory dial has a gilt center and sash holding a flat beveled glass; the hands are correct. The round 8-day,
time-and-strike movement is signed; I can’t get it to run for more than a minute, but I think it has been sitting for too long. It will strike the cathedral gong (hour and half-hour) when I move the hands. Better than average condition. $150-$300.
