Antique American Clocks July 2020
107. $450
E.N. Welch ripple-front beehive, ca. 1860. A 19-inch round gothic ripple-front obtained from
J.C. Brown when his business closed in 1855. The mahogany veneer is good, the ripple clean with a nice finish. The glasses
are old/original, but the lithograph tablet has lost the image of Buckingham Palace. The dial is original with the original
paint, badly worn and touched up in numerous places. The hands are original. The Welch-signed 8-day, time-and-strike movement
is running without problem. The is a good green Welch label on the bottom noting the clock came from the “late J. C. Brown Forestville
Manufactory”. $500-$700.
