106.    $500

Forestville Mfg. Co. ripple-front beehive, 1842-1849.  A 19-inch round gothic ripple-front. Good mahogany veneer on the sides, with a crack where it curves on the right side.  Both glasses likely original, the milk-glass tablet having considerable losses from zealous cleaning.  Nonetheless, the center image, surrounded by the saying “Time cuts down all both great and small”, remains clear and the image is taken from a lesson in the 1811 New England Primer for school children.  The original dial has been repainted and is signed J. C. Brown, the hands original and the hour hand repaired.  The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is signed “Forestville M.F.G. Co., Bristol CT” and is running and striking properly.  A good label inside.  $600-$800.
