Antique American Clocks July 2020
42. $750
Seth Thomas “Office Calendar No. 5”, ca 1980. This is an unsigned reproduction of this
large and impressive wall calendar clock. It is very well made with the correct ornaments and carvings (see Ly, Seth Thomas
Clocks & Movements, Vol. 1, page 94). It is 47 inches long in what looks like solid walnut or mahogany. Both dials
are new, the hands correct. The 8-day, time-only, weight-driven movement is unsigned, the calendar movement appears new. There is a correct pendulum stick and a large plain brass bob hanging in front of a brass beat scale, as found on the originals. The bottom glass for viewing the pendulum does not open. The clock is running and the calendar is advancing; unfortunately,
the key to the door latch has gone missing. This clock looks darn good and will be hard to distinguish from an original. An original sold at Fontaine’s last fall for $5000; Horton’s sold this reproduction two years ago for $875. $750-$1200.
