Antique American Clocks January 2020

Hamilton Watch Co. “Pacer”, 1963-1968. The Pacer was introduced in 1958 and is Hamilton’s most popular
electric watch; over 42,000 were produced. The dial was redesigned in 1963; this example has that later dial. This watch
also holds the 505 movement that was introduced in 1961 as an improvement to the original 500 movement. The original dial
shows some spotting between the 10 and 12, and there is some tarnish to the case where the white gold lugs are mounted to the 10 kt
yellow gold-filled case. There is also some loss of finish on the lower lug. The crystal is new as is the brown crocodile
band. The hands, including the sweep seconds hand, are correct. The movement was serviced, including a new old-stock D-pin,
by Jarett Harkness and is running and keeping time. The Pacer was most famously worn by President Lyndon B. Johnson. Note
that the Pacer has been reissued with a quartz movement. $500-$900.
