456.    $225

German closed-well swinger chime, ca. 1900.  No maker evident on this 32.5-inch walnut (?) case or on the movement.  It has an unusual strike, playing the complete Westminster chimes on four rods at each quarter-hour, followed by a double-strike on a 5th rod once for each quarter-hour, and followed by a strike to count the hours on the hour.  It’s complicated, but it seems to be working.  There is a silvered metal dial with a bronze inset to match the large pendulum bob, behind a lower glass.  The dial glass is curved.  An interesting model I’ve not seen before.  $225-$350.

Nelson Timken tells me the movement is a pre-WWII Junghans movement.
