Antique American Clocks January 2020
451. $125
Unsigned brass table clock, ca. 1880. No signature that I can find on this 14-inch brass clock. There are white cartouche porcelain numbers set in the brass dial, no glass or bezel. The base is fenestrated such that you
can see the pendulum moving; there are lion’s (?) heads on both sides with protruding tongues. And the requisite urn on top. The unsigned time-and-strike movement has an unusual bell mount to the back plate with a coiled spring holding it in place; the bell
is damascened. It is running and striking, but just once on the hour and half-hour. The back door holds a Plexiglas window;
I have no choice but to throw a penalty flag on that. The brass finish is a bit worn and tarnished, particularly in comparison
with #450. Traditional French key included. $150-$250.
