Antique American Clocks January 2020
444. $500
S. Marti & Cie lyre brass and marble garniture, ca. 1880. This was the centerpiece of our consignor’s
French clock collection. The brass and green marble lyre-form clock is flanked by bronze fauns holding a rope of flowers draped
below the dial, surmounted by a marble urn, all with bright brass trim and ornaments. The floral-decorated porcelain dial sits
behind a beveled flat glass. The pendule de Paris movement has the S Marti & Cie logo and is running and striking on the
cathedral gong; the back plate is missing. The two matching marble and brass candelabra also have bronze putti mounted on each
side of the middle urns an each holds seven candles, with matching snuffers. The brass and marble features are without flaws. This is a common and popular model and a number of very similar examples can be found on LiveAuctioneers, selling for $500-$750.
