304.    $75

Jerome & Co. “Duchess”, 1857-1904.  The New Haven Clock Co. took over Jerome & Co. in 1857 and continued to market clocks with the Jerome & Co. label.  This “Duchess” has a Jerome & Co. label on the back and a New Haven logo on the movement.  It is an 8-day with a half-hour strike that is running and striking as required.  There is a nice polychrome-decorated glass in the door typical of New Haven clocks, a single barrel pendulum, and a cathedral gong that sounds quite nice when the clock strikes.  The dial holds the original paint and is signed at the bottom, the hands correct. The interior is covered in black paper that appears not to be original but may be correct.  There is mahogany veneer on the door, dial board, and base.  It is 18.25 inches tall.  $75-$150.
