Seth Thomas “Chime Clock No. 16”, ca. 1913.  Nobody did chime clocks like Seth Thomas, making famous the “Sonora chimes” on bells and later, rods.  The chime movement winds separately; this model chimes on four bells and plays Westminster chimes.  The hour strike is on a single bell, counting the hours.  Why are these clocks so pricey? Because when you hear them you realize nothing else comes close.  I don’t care for the appearance, but the sound is wonderful. This one stands 18.5 inches tall (8.25 inches deep) in a mahogany case that is flawless.  The silvered dial shows its age (~100 years) but is better than average, and sits behind a convex beveled glass.  It is running, striking, chiming, and keeping time. If you don’t love the chime on this clock we’ll take it back.  Three sales in the Antique Clocks Price Guide, the most recent of which (2010) was for $805 at Schmitt’s.   $500-$800.
