Antique American Clocks January 2020
37. $500
E.N. Welch “Sinico”, ca. 1885. A beautiful 45-inch black walnut case, clean as a whistle,
with the typical Welch ornate carvings and full-length door glass. It matches the catalog illustration on page 278 of Ly’s 2nd Edition,Welch Clocks. The dial is a matte finish replacement that I like, better than paper and unlikely to yellow; it is signed. The hands are replacements, as is the door glass. The 8-day spring-driven “Verdi” movement counts the hours on a gong and the
half-hours on a nickel bell behind the movement. It is running, not exactly robustly, but steady; I replaced the suspension
spring and had the movement cleaned. Nice labels on the back. $500-$750.
