Antique American Clocks January 2020
22. $225
Seth Thomas “Column Large” sleigh-front shelf clock, ca. 1870. A very original example,
32 inches high in rosewood veneer with darkly stained rosewood half-columns, the original gilt caps and plinths, and three original
glasses with minimal losses. The only veneer losses I see are on the sides of the base, although the upper right return is damaged. The original painted metal dial has been touched up in places, not quite professionally. The Seth Thomas lyre movement is running,
striking on an iron bell mounted over a wire gong. The alarm (untested) also strikes on the bell; one of the two should be adjusted
to strike on the gong. The movement is signed Plymouth Hollow, the label is Thomaston, suggesting that this clock was made from
1865 to 1875 or so. Old but unmatched weights. $225-$325.
