Antique American Clocks January 2020
12. $1800
E.N. Welch “Patti No. 2”, ca. 1886. Considerably less common than the Patti No.
1 and only half the size at 10 inches tall. The rosewood-veneered case has been overcoated one time too many and is just a bit
shiny. Three glasses, the door glass being quite nice with a complete gold leaf border. The dial is old paper, the hands
are the proper Welch hands, and the pendulum is the proper Welch pendulum for this model, regulating the miniature 8-day, time-and-strike
Patti movement. It is running and keeping time, striking on a nickel bell. The backboard is old flocked black paper; there
is no label on the back but the backboard is almost certainly original. The three finials are original, the back buttons appear
to be formed from wood putty and stained. We sold one not quite as nice in July of last year for $1925. $2000-$2200.
