197. $450
Ansonia Clock Co. “Bagdad”, ca. 1904. This is the later
model and the one most commonly seen (Ly, Ansonia Clocks & Watches, pages 182-183). This example is unusual, however, because
it is weight-driven; most examples are spring-driven. The 50-inch case is black walnut with an old, clean finish; the door glass
is original and the side lights may be as well. The paper dial is very dark; the hands are likely original; the seconds hand
may be a replacement. The nickel and brass movement is signed and runs 8 days, time-only, driven by the two brass weights that
I believe are correct to this model; it is running. The pendulum stick and bob are also original. There is a label on
the back, manufactured in Brooklyn, NY. Spring-driven Bagdads sell for around $500. $450–$700.
