189. $500
Wm L Gilbert Clock Co. “Regulator No. 10”, ca. 1901. This
model has two different types of crests – this is the less common style, with fans at the corners. This likely represents a
change in design over the years. Indeed, the catalog description in Ly, Gilbert Clocks (page 135) says this this model only
came in oak and was 53 inches long; this case is clearly walnut and is 50 inches long. It has an old, polished finish; note
the burled walnut inset on the back wall. The door glass is modern and the left side glass also appears to be a replacement. The dial is replaced glossy paper and is signed, the inset dial is also paper. The hands are proper but the seconds hand appears
to be a replacement. The 8-day weight-driven, time-only movement is unsigned and running steadily. The pendulum and large
brass weight appear to be original and proper. There is no label, inside or on back. This model is less common than the
No. 11 (next); Fontaine’s sold a similar example in 2020 for $650. $500–$750.
