Boston Clock Co. “Office Regulator”, 1888-1897. A 40-inch
cherry case with a fine old finish. Both glasses are almost certainly original, the tablet may have been rebacked. The
center horizontal divider has been secured to the case with two poorly placed screws, the only real apology I can find; the left scroll
on the crest has been broken and repaired, and the top left finial has had a rough time and is glued together. The signed dial
is clean with craquelure and may be an old repaint; the hands are likely original. The 8-day, time-only movement is unsigned;
it is running without problem, driven by a large iron weight and regulated by a proper and likely original pendulum bob. There
is a weight shield and a tie down. There’s no two ways around it, this is a gorgeous clock. Horton’s sold this clock in
2019 for $4000. $2800–$4000.
