Seth Thomas Clock Co. “Office Calendar No. 2”, ca. 1870. A large (43-inch by 20-inch) weight-driven shelf calendar, the largest model Seth Thomas made. The veneer is rosewood with chips
(touched up) on the bezels and edges, as you would expect. The large light area on the upper left of the lower dial is not a
chip, but a light-colored piece of veneer. Both glasses are original; the dials are old repaints with some crackling to the
lower dial. The hands are original. The 8-day, weight-driven, time-only movement is unsigned; it is running and the calendar
is advancing. There is a proper cast iron weight that runs down the right side; the pendulum and bob are correct. The
roller papers on the calendar are almost certainly original and are yellowed and brittle. There is a label on the back of the
door. An uncommon and impressive clock that typically sells for around $550. $450–$650.
