Ansonia Clock Co. “Single Post Crystal Palace”, ca. 1875. Henry J. Davies designed and patented the “Crystal Palace Clock”, ultimately marketing six models under his own name and through the Ansonia Clock Co.  This example retains the H.J. Davies label on the back; the movement is marked Ansonia, the pendulum is a modern and proper two-barrel pendulum.  With the glass dome it stands 17.25 inches tall; the dome is a perfect fit to the walnut and ebony base.  This clock also was marketed with a square base.  The dial is glossy paper, with some wear; the brass ornament that should be on top of the dial is missing.  The hands are replacements.  The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is running and striking on the brass bell on the hours.  Schmidt’s Antiques sold one in 2020 for $450.  $400–$500.
