Ansonia Clock Co. “Elite”, ca. 1904. A rare clock, with
only two sales records in the last decade. A 16.5-inch-tall metal case that I believe has been refinished in a coppery (barbedienne?)
bronze. The front and sides have silvered, embossed metal plates that depict several hunting scenes, the front depicts
several women working. The detail is extensive and in high relief on these images, and there is some wear to the high spots. The dial has a silvered bezel and metal cartouche numbering in silver and bronze, with an ornate visible escapement with ruby pallets,
all behind a flat beveled glass. The hands are period and appropriate. The round movement is signed and has a half-hour
rack and snail strike on a cathedral gong. It is running and striking as expected. I have not seen this model before and
it is quite impressive. An example stripped to bare metal sold at Webber Antiques and Auctions in 2016 for $675. You will
not find a better example than this, from the Lyle and Donna Segelberg collection. $450–$900.
