245.         $100

Waterbury Clock Co. “Congo”, ca. 1891.  Is this an African theme or a circus theme?  The jester on the top suggests circus, but the name (Congo) suggests the African interior.  The 10.5-inch metal case has been refinished in a manner like the original “oxydized silver” finish.  The dial is porcelain with some slight hairline cracks and replaced hands.  It has a one-day time-and-strike lever-spring movement with a single winding port on the dial; on the back is a strike/silent switch.  It is running but I can’t get it to strike on the cathedral gong that protrudes through the bottom of the case.  I didn’t remove the back cover.  No sales records that I can find, and no label. $100-$300.
