Chauncey Boardman dwarf tall case, ca. 1815. Like most of the earliest
clockmakers, Boardman started out making wooden tall-case movements; this dwarf clock, 60-inches tall with the square-peg brass urn
finials, has a 30-hour time-and-strike, pull-up movement with two sand-filled tin weights. The case may have been made by Chauncey
Jerome and has been expertly repainted by Peter Deen. There is a shelf-bracket that can be mounted to the bottom if you want
a wall mount; both the bracket and scroll top are restorations. As noted, the brass urn finials are period, the glass over the
dial is old but perhaps not original. The wooden dial is clean, the hands are cast spelter metal, and the seconds bit is old. I hung the weights but it wasn’t agreeable to running; the bell that should be on top of the movement is gone so it won’t strike. There is a remarkable paper label inside behind a sheet of plastic, and a pendulum bob and rod. There are no sales of Boardman
dwarf tall clocks on LiveAuctioneers or the Antique Clocks Identification and Price Guide. A very rare example. $1500–$3000.
