199. $2000
E. Howard & Co. “No. 10 Regulator”, ca. 1874. A 34-inch walnut case with a beautiful finish and three period/original glasses in outstanding condition. The dial shows only minor flaking, the 8-day, time-only movement is signed and running with a No. 10 weight and a proper brass damascened pendulum bob. There is a label on the back of the door. The weight shield is broken at the top and, as noted below, the upper bezel has been replaced. E. Howard winding crank included. Schmitt Horan sold an original with some issues last year for $3400; Fontaine’s sold an original last year for $3750. $2000–$3000.
Steve Petrucelli saw this on the AAC Facebook page and pointed out that the upper bezel has been replaced; it should match the lower bezel. The curved lip on these bezels would get chipped and be replaced with a flat bezel, as found here. Bummer, but thanks Steve!
