Seth Thomas “Office Calendar No. 1”, ca. 1863. A second
example, again an early version with the double-OG door. This one has been restored with all-new rosewood veneer. Both glasses are old, the label on the back of the door is a slightly oversized reproduction of an original; there is a key to open
the door. Both original dials have been properly repainted, the hands are correct. The Seth Thomas 8-day, time-only, weight-driven
movement is running strongly, with a proper pendulum, brass bob, and iron weight. The calendar cam on the back of the movement
is a hand-made replacement and is working fine, but you have to be sure the lift arm pin is sitting on the cam; there are two windows
cut into the case on the back and on the top to allow you to check this. When the lift arm is in place the calendar advances,
but the date hand lift rod needs some adjustment. Also be careful you do not overtighten the hands. Overall, this clock
looks great and runs strongly. $1500-$1800.
