155. $350
Southern Calendar Clock Co. “Fashion No. 3–4”, ca. 1885. This Fashion appears to be a hybrid between a No. 3 (the movement and pendulum) and a No. 4 (the dials). The No. 3 had a wire
pendulum and “Texas star” pendulum bob (as found here), but the remainder of the movement was the same as that of the No. 4; the No.
3 dial had a flat seconds bit dial, while the No. 4 had an inset seconds bit dial, as found here. In all other aspects the two
models were identical, with some minor changes in later examples of the No. 4. It is likely that a previous owner replaced either
the dials or the pendulum incorrectly. You can fix it if you like, if you have access to the proper parts. The walnut
case is clean with a good finish; the three finials are modern replacements, the door glass is original with the correct Fashion lettering. Both dials were repainted by The Dial House, the hands are correct. The movement is signed and running, striking on the large
brass bell, and the calendars are advancing. There are labels inside. Because this case lacks the secret compartment
on the back found on most No. 4’s, one could argue that this is a No. 3 case, although some No. 4 models also lack this pendulum and
winding key compartment. $350–$600.
