Seth Thomas “Cottage” with battery alarm, ca. 1880.  A second cottage clock with a complicated alarm mechanism, this one apparently battery-dependent—note the terminals on the right side and the wires running inside.  The 9.5-inch-tall case has clean rosewood veneer, an old/original dial glass and an old mirror; there is bright gilding around the glasses.  The metal dial may be a replacement but is correct for this model; the paint is blistered and has been touched up, the hands are correct.  This cottage contains the uncommon “T-type” movement (see Ly, Seth Thomas Clocks & Movements, Vol. 1, page 230).  It is a 30-hour, time-only, and is die-stamped including the ST logo and is running just fine.  The alarm was not tested; there is a Thomaston label on the inside backwall, but it is largely obscured by the alarm mechanism.  The alarm is connected to a slide on the left that is connected to the battery terminals, and a crank on the right that has two settings, presumably A and B, or on and off.  Not being an electrician, I have no clue what is going on here, and there may be missing parts.  If you are the lucky winning bidder you can figure it out, I’m sure. $100-$200.
