45.                   $500

Hills, Goodrich & Co. gilt column OG, 1841-1845.  One of those classic clocks everyone wants. The 31-inch OG case is veneered in very dark mahogany; both glasses are period, the dial glass original, the tablet redone with an unusual image.  The gilded gesso acanthus leaves have some cracks and dullness, the gilded columns are also original but show some wear.  The two inside mirrors must be original; the paint color is typical and likely original.  The formed and fitted dial is pinned to the housing surrounding the sparkling clean strap-brass movement; the hands are period and correct.  The 8-day, time-and-strike, unsigned movement is unusual in its design, and is running and striking.  It is driven by two 9-lb weights that are specific to this clock and cast to fit behind the slanted mirror boards.  The label has many losses, but the makers’ names are still readable. AACsold one in 2022 for $715.  $500–$750.
