239.         $100

J.C. Brown “Jeweled Marine” lever octagon clock, ca. 1855.  A 9.25-inch octagon case with rosewood veneer, and an old finish.  The clock is 3 inches deep.  The dial glass is old, the dial has been repainted more than once, with touch-up and hand-lettering.  The hands are proper.  The 30-hour jeweled lever movement is unsigned but was probably made by Elisha Manross; it is running, with a seconds hand, time-only, but stops easily.  The label on the back is in rough shape, but the essential information is there.  I cannot find any sales on LiveAuctioneers or Antique Clocks Identification and Price Guide for a JC Brown jeweled lever, although it is discussed by Ken Roberts and Snowden Taylor inJonathan Clark Brown and the Forestville Manufacturing Company on pages 62-65.  $100-$300.
