Welch, Spring & Co. “Patti No. 1”, ca. 1879-1884. The
iconic Patti clock, named after Adelina Patti, “The Queen of the Opera”; she sang for Mary and Abraham Lincoln at the White House. A 19-inch case veneered in rosewood with a fine furniture finish. The door glass is a correct replacement, the side glasses
may be original. The dial has been replaced with a high-quality glossy paper dial, the hands are Welch hands. The 8-day,
time-and-strike Patti movement is running and striking on the hours, regulated by a sandwich-glass pendulum. There is a label
on the back behind plexiglass. A beautiful example of this beautiful clock. Schmidt’s Antiques sold one last fall for
$800, as did Schmitt Horan last spring. $750-$1000.
