181.           $100

EN Welch miniature steeple, ca. 1870.  A 14.5-inch case veneered in flame mahogany on the front and straight mahogany on the sides; the finish is old with a great patina, and the finials are undamaged.  Both glasses are period, the tablet a milk-glass image of a rose, still in good condition.  The metal dial holds very old paint with minimal chipping; the hands are modern, in the correct style.  The 30-hour movement is unsigned, time-only, with a separately winding alarm, untested.  The clock is running, the alarm strikes on a large iron bell.  There is a good green label inside, a proper pendulum bob, and a winding key.  This is an attractive and original example of an uncommon (miniature) steeple.  If you don’t have a miniature in your steeple collection you need one.  $100-$200.
