Birge & Fuller candlestick double-steeple with wagon-spring
movement, 1844-1848. A gorgeous example of this highly desirable double steeple. The case is 26 inches tall, veneered
in mahogany with one repair that I see, at the uppermost upper door hinge. The left rear candlestick may be a replacement. All glasses are old, the Fenn-style tablets almost certainly repainted. The contoured dial has been touched up; the hands are
correct. The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is signed and running, striking on the wire gong. The label is very good. Nothing not to like here. Schmidt’s Antiques sold one last fall for $2000 with a 25% premium. $1600-$2200.
