171.           $600

Forestville Manufacturing Co. ripple-front steeple, 1842-1849. A full-size (19.5-inch) steeple with an uncommon “pie crust” ripple pattern.  The finish is a bit crusty in the crevices and has been overcoated with a slight gloss; the finial tips have been significantly shortened.  Both glasses are period/original, the tablet a well-preserved blue transfer image of JC Brown’s residence which he purchased from L.C. Ives in 1847.  The painted zinc dial has some touch-ups, has yellowed, and is unsigned; the hands are period.  The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is signed J.C. Brown, Forestville CT U.S.A.; it is running and striking on a wire gong.  There is a good label behind plastic.  AAC sold a similar example in 2020 for $728.  $600-$900.
