159. $250
Forestville Manufacturing Co. stenciled cottage, 1842-1849. Made under ownership of the company by J.C. Brown, as noted on the label and dial. The 15-inch case is veneered
in rosewood with well-retained gold stenciling on the front; the case has been lacquered to protect the stenciling and there is a
patina over that on the sides. Both glasses are likely original with a gilt stencil on the dial glass and a milk-glass tablet
with only modest wear. The contoured metal dial is likely an old repaint, with a faint JC Brown signature and a bit of touch-up
above the mainstem; the hands are proper modern replacements. The 8-day, time-and-strike brass movement is signed and running,
striking on the wire gong. There is a good label inside and an old pendulum bob. A nice example. With good stenciling,
as found here, these models can bring upwards of $300. $250-$400.
