151. $200
Seth Thomas column & cornice, ca. 1870. This model
is not shown in Ly’s books on Seth Thomas clocks, but it is seen occasionally. The 31-inch case is veneered in flame mahogany
under a thick and crusty finish. This case would clean up beautifully. Both glasses are period/original, with the milk
glass tablet well-preserved and a key attraction to this clock. The painted contoured dial is clean and with good color in the
spandrels, the hands are period. The Seth Thomas lyre, 8-day, time-and-strike movement is running and striking properly, driven
by two cast iron 8-day weights. The label is gone, the only shortcoming for this clock. I can find no sales of this model,
but similar clocks by Birge & Fuller sell for $200 and up. $200-$400.
