147.           $175

Chauncey Jerome Empire shelf clock, ca. 1850.  A second example of this distinctive Jerome clock.  The 24.5-inch case (17 inches wide) is again veneered in flame mahogany, but the door is larger and fits up against the flat-front sides without the inner frame found on #146.  Both glasses are likely original, with a tablet depicting a museum in a lithograph I don’t recognize, with very few losses.  The dial is wood and is very dirty; the hands are period, but the minute hand is NOS.  The 30-hour, time-and-strike brass movement is stamped “Chauncey Jerome, New Haven Conn, USA”.  It is running and striking, driven by two old iron weights.  The paper label inside is in good shape. $175-$400.

Mike Bailey tells me this is a view of the American Museum on Broadway in New York, as discussed by Paul Henion in his Jan/FebBulletin article.
