JC Brown Forestville Mfg Co. acorn fusee shelf clock, ca. 1847-1850. This popular and unusual clock has been fully restored by an expert clock repair person; please note the accompanying list of repairs, replacements, and restorations.  The walnut or mahogany laminate case is just under 25 inches tall; the finish is finely polished, the only flaw I see being the overly large acorns on the sidearms.  Both glasses are modern, the iconic tablet of JC Brown’s home in Bristol CT was painted by Lee Davis.  The metal dial is original, but I think it is an old repaint, possibly antiqued. The hands are likely original.  The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is signed and polished, with all bushings replaced and some gears as well.  It is running confidently.  The fusee mechanism in the bottom of the case was also restored, and the movement restrung.  There is a faded card label inside.  The irresolvable battle between originality and beauty is on full display here.  Choose your side and bid accordingly!  The most recent sale of a Brown acorn was at Tom Harris in 2021, for $3700; AAC sold an example similar to this one for $5050 that year.  $3250-$5000.
