Birge, Peck & Co. Extra Eight Day Brass Clock, 1849-1859. This was John Birge’s last business, from which he retired in 1855.  This is a very nice example of a two-door, sleigh-front, column-and-cornice clock, standing 33 inches tall with beautiful flame mahogany veneer, a clean finish, and three original glasses with well-preserved tablets.  The painted metal dial is in good shape, the hands are period.  The strap-brass movement is running and striking without issue, driven by two old 8-lb weights (included).  Be sure to note the label with “The Breeze” steam train; check out the boy with his dog on the right.  One of the better, and more original examples I have seen.  $250-$400.
