137.           $350

Silas B. Terry Empire shelf clock, ca. 1835.  A 38.5-inch case with mahogany veneer all around including the columns; there are some chips at the bottom of the columns.  Note the highly carved and unusual splat; the ball feet are proper but modern replacements.  Both glasses are original; the tablet glass is cracked and has been ‘taped back together’, with a piece of glass puttied in behind it for protection.  The original tablet is well preserved. The wood dial is clean with strong numbering and a large center cutout to view the skeletonized 8-day, time-and-strike movement. It is running and striking on the steel bell, driven by two 8-day cast iron weights and regulated by a period pendulum bob. There is a Terry card label inside.  Terry commonly used dials with large cutouts but did not routinely used skeletonized brass movements; clocks with this movement are more difficult to find.  I found one example with this movement on LiveAuctioneers and two examples on Antique Clocks Identification and Price Guide.  $350-$600.
