124.           $250

Silas Hoadley miniature time & alarm, 1813-1830.  Hoadley is well-known for these miniature timepiece-alarms, a market he apparently owned.  This one is 26 inches tall on new turned feet in front and back; you usually see no feet or paw feet.  There are two inset quarter-columns with minimal original stenciling and the original stenciled splat of an American eagle clutching arrows over a shield.  Classic.  The door has mahogany veneer, the sides are softwood, the chimney posts are curly maple, and the entire case has been varnished.  The dial glass is old and possibly original, the mirror an early twentieth century replacement.  Mirrors are found on about half of the examples I can find on LiveAuctioneers.  The miniature 30-hour wooden movement has been refurbished and will run for a few minutes, probably more with some attention.  I did not test the alarm although the weight is present; these clocks did not have a strike. There is a remarkably good label inside.  Schmitt Horan sold a similar example in 2021 for $225, although not long ago these clocks brought upwards of $1000.  $250-$750.
