William Sherwin (attr.) miniature time & alarm, ca. 1830. Sherwin is best known for his miniature pillar & scrolls, working out of Buckland, MA, in western Massachusetts.  This timepiece-alarm is 25 inches tall in maple, with bronzed columns and splat.  Both glasses are old but have been replaced, the tablet repainted to match other Sherwin tablets.  The dial has been repainted and antiqued, the hands period/original.  The 30-hour wooden movement has an alarm that winds above the VIII and strikes on a large iron bell, the time winds at the XII.  It will need attention to get it running properly.  The interior was washed in red stain and any label is long gone.  I can find no other examples of this model by Sherwin, although I am told a well-known collector in Vermont had/has one.  $750-$1000.
