119.           $600

Rodney Brace carved column & splat, ca. 1834.  A second Rodney Brace clock from the early 1830's; note the 1830 census on the label.  The case style is very similar, 31.5 inches tall with period carved pineapple finials, beautifully carved inset quarter columns and a similar splat, on paw feet in front and turned feet in back.  There is a great patina on the finish.  The dial glass is original, the lower glass replaced, and the tablet repainted by Tom Moberg.  The door is warped and does not close tightly.  The dial board has had it rough, having been drilled out to fit a standard wooden movement.  The unwanted holes have been filled and the paint touched up, and a 5-arbor Torrington movement is back in place.  The hands are period and correctly sized.  I hung the small square iron weights (2.5 lb) but it wouldn’t run.  A very pretty clock.  $600-$800.
