Mark Leavenworth & Son carved column & splat, 1824-1829. Leavenworth is best known for his miniature pillar & scrolls, but in the late 1820’s he made “carved clocks” as found here. The case is 29 inches tall excluding the finials, which may be replacements.  Everything else I can find here is period and likely original: the two glasses with a well-retained tablet; the dial board, with considerable wear and loss to the gilding; the eagle hands; the tin pulley covers; the carved feet in front and the turned feet in back.  The 30-hour wooden movement is as shown in Snowden Taylor’s book, The Clocks of Mark Leavenworth, on page 27, and a very similar clock is also shown on that page.  There is a good label inside, two proper weights and an old pendulum bob.  I could not get the clock to run for very long, but I didn’t try very hard.  A very original example from this maker.  Chuck Schmidt sold a restored example last fall for $700.  $400-$800.
