110.           $400

Seth Thomas pillar & scroll, 1827-1830.  The label inside acknowledges the patent on this clock design by Eli Terry, indicating that it was made after an agreement was reached between Terry and Thomas in 1827.  This is a very original example: the only replacements I can find are newer glue blocks behind the crest and new tin dust covers.  Although the brass finials are not the type Thomas typically used, you often see them on his clocks. I note that the left scroll tip has been repaired; the feet and skirt look original.  I believe both glasses are original, although the putty along the top edge of the dial glass is missing; the rest of the putty is present and very old on both glasses.  The original tablet has been expertly touched up and looks great.  The wooden dial is typical of ST dials from this period, with lots of color in the corners and with a decoration below the mainstem.  The hands are proper.  The 30-hour, time-and-strike wooden movement will run only briefly, but I don’t think this is a major problem.  The strike is working.  There is a very good label inside.  There’s really nothing to complain about here; this is another Villet-restored clock.  $400-$600.
