Macomb Calendar Clock Co. calendar clock, 1882-1884. The
MCCC was in business only briefly and only about 1000 clocks were made using a patented movement designed by J.K. Seem, also of Macomb
IL. This is one of the more common models, made in both a shelf and hanging version. This clock is a partial reproduction
that (I believe) uses the original movement in an old case with restorations (crest, pressed wood ornaments, door glass) by Roy Burlingame;
Dick Broline reproduced the moon phase dial, mechanism, and lower calendar mechanism (Jarrel Hofer in Ly, Calendar Clocks, pages 181-182). The walnut case is 27.5 inches tall with a clean finish, a burled panel on the new crest and pressed wood ornaments. The modern
glass has a decal on the back. The dial is glossy paper on the original dial pan, the hands are correct. The 8-day time-and-strike
movement here is unsigned and may have been made by E.N. Welch; Seth Thomas also made movements for MCCC, and some movements are signed
by MCCC. The moon phase dial is a copy of the original dial, with the company name printed below the pendulum window. The clock is running and striking, the calendar is advancing, and the moon phase is advancing, counter-clockwise, as well. There
is a copy of the original instruction label on the back. LiveAuctioneers lists four sales in the last decade, most recently
at Tom Harris Auctions in 2021 for $700; Schmitt Horan sold one in 2020 for $2200. $500-$1000.
