Southern Calendar Clock Co. “Fashion No. 2”,
1878. The Culver brothers’ second model, which introduced the Fashion case style but still used walnut veneer and a door with
two dial glasses. Subsequent models would ditch the veneer for solid walnut and go with a full glass door with Fashion lettering
in gold leaf. The case with finials is 31 inches tall, the veneer good all around except for the top of the time dial bezel,
where a repair is evident. The finish is old, but clean. Both glasses appear original, the dials have been repainted and
antiqued. The hands are proper. The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is marked “Made by Seth Thomas for the Southern Calendar
Clock Co.” it is running and striking, and the calendar date hand and day roller are advancing. There is a good label on the
back of the door, as well as a ‘Do Not Oil’ label behind the period calendar movement. AAC sold one with badly chipped dials
in 2020 for $325. $300-$400.
