Seth Thomas Clock Co. “Parlor Calendar No.
8”, 1889. A 27.5-inch walnut case with a rich patina. This model is notable for the use of lighter wood accents on the
three bands across the door and, at the bottom, around the case. The four urn finials across the top are particularly delicate
and show evidence of repair here. Both glasses are old with nickel dial rings; the dials have been repainted and the varnish
on the time dial is crackled. I believe repainting the time dial would make a big difference here, as this clock is otherwise
near perfect. The signed Seth Thomas 8-day, time-and-strike movement is running and striking, and the calendars are advancing. A ‘Do not oil’ label and an instruction label on the back of the door; a date stamp on the back. Cottone’s sold one last year
for $1200; Horton’s sold one in 2019 for $1256. $1000-$1200.
