49.                   $500

David Wood-style banjo, ca. 1820.  The unusual 3-post, beehive movement in this clock leads to the attribution to David Wood, who worked in Newburyport MA in the early 1800’s.  Although the case is typical of the period and locale, I cannot be sure the movement is original to this case, as there are additional holes in the backwall.   The 33-inch case is veneered in mahogany with repainted glasses on newer glass; the dial glass is convex in a heavy brass bezel.  The iron dial has been repainted, the hands are likely original. There is an iron banjo weight, an old weight shield, and a pendulum that has been repaired at the suspension spring and at the bottom. The flying eagle finial is brass on a brass ball.  The clock only runs briefly and will need service.  $500-$800.
