43.                   $150

EN Welch “Alexis No. 2”, ca. 1872.  Welch made this model in two sizes, 26 inches (No. 1) and 22 inches (No. 2).  This is the smaller model, with a gorgeous finish, grain painted bezels, rosewood veneer on the sides, and an original dial glass.  The lower glass is correct to style but may be a replacement, as there is newer putty.  Note the carved bowtie between the two rounds. The old replacement aluminum dial pan has an old paper dial with some wear and discoloration.  The hands are correct.  The 8-day, time-only movement is running nicely.  There is a good label in the bottom window with the black and gold “Alexis” paste-over that was necessitated when Welch discovered that their original name, Ionic, was taken by Ingraham Clocks.  Stevens Auction Co. sold a No. 2 in 2013 for $200, the most recent sale I can find.  Another uncommon model.   $150-$300.
