Seth Thomas “Regulator
No. 3”, ca. 1890. A 42-inch case, veneered in walnut with a knurled weight, damascened bob and pully, all nickel-plated. There is a faint date stamped on the back, either 1885 or 1895. It looks as though the veneer has been overstained on the bezel
and door frame, or perhaps removed before staining; the finish is not clear. The sides are clearly veneered, and there are burled
walnut panels on either side of the lower door. Both glasses appear to be replacements, the 14-inch dial holds the original
paint, with some wear, and is likely original to this clock; the hands are ST issue. The trapezoidal 8-day, time-only movement
bears the ST logo and is running but stops frequently; I think the movement needs to be disassembled and cleaned. There is a
white label on the bottom, and a beat scale behind the pendulum bob. AAC sold a very similar example last summer for $1488. $1200-$1500.
