Atkins Clock Co.
“30-Day Extra”, ca. 1875. A 56-inch case veneered in rosewood with a matching grain-painted door frame and dial bezels. The dial glass appears to be original, the door glass a modern replacement. The dial is original, likely repainted long ago,
with the original hands. It holds a 30-day time-only movement (Type D, see Gregory & King, The Clocks of Irenus Atkins,
pages 58-61) driven by two original weights (Type IV) and is running reluctantly, with some wobble to the pendulum; it will likely
need attention. The pendulum stick is gilded and has been repaired at the suspension spring (possibly the problem), the bob
is original, the interior is black. There is a key to operate both door latches; no label to be found. There is some roughness
to the finish on the apron below the dial on the left. Surprisingly few sales of this model, none recent; R.O. Schmitt sold
a similar example in 2012 for $2300. $1200-$1800.
