Japanese Poppo cuckoo with animated owls, ca. 1950? The case is 28 inches long and 24 inches wide and features two owls with animated eyes that move back and forth.  There is a cuckoo bird that calls on the hours and half hours as well.  The carvings are adequate but not early Black Forest quality; the cuckoo’s call is weak, the movement noisy, and the door does not fully open.  The 30-hour brass movement is stamped “Doddo” with "Made in Japan".  The clock is running and the eyes move back and forth nicely.  A nice novelty, but the bellows probably need replacement or repair.  $150-$300.
